PRESS RELEASE: ONTARIO CRAFT CIDER TAKES HOME 43 MEDALS AT THE GREAT LAKES INTERNATIONAL CIDER & PERRY COMPETITION

West Avenue Cider wins two Best in Class awards and four gold medals to highlight Ontario ciders at competition

(Toronto, ON – May 3, 2016) The Ontario Craft Cider Association (OCCA) is thrilled to announce the results from the Great Lakes International Cider & Perry Competition (GLINTCAP) that took place this past weekend in Michigan. Ontario Craft Cider Association members took home a total of 43 medals, including 8 gold, 13 silver and 22 bronze, an increase of 18 medals over last year’s showing. Ontario’s West Avenue Cider brought home two Best in Class awards and four gold medals at this year’s event.

“Once again Ontario Craft Cider members have shown what Ontario apples and precision craftsmanship can do on an international stage.  Our cider makers are quickly establishing Ontario as one of the best regions in the world to make great cider,” said Thomas Wilson, Chair, OCCA.  “In a few weeks, Ontario cider drinkers will have a chance to taste some of these award-winning ciders when Ontario Cider Week comes to a bar near them.”

GLINTCAP is organized by The Great Lakes Cider & Perry Association, a not-for-profit organization formed to showcase and promote fermented apple and pear beverages. The competition took place on April 22-24, 2016, and this year had 1,003 entries in total.
